Beat the Heat in Style: The Art of Staying Cool This Summer

We’ve all dreamt of long, hot summer days… until we’re actually in them, trying to look chic while slowly melting like a 99 Flake.

After recently attending the most spectacular Italian wedding in soaring temperatures, I was reminded that dressing well in extreme heat is just as much about comfort as it is about style. The setting was breathtaking, the bride looked stunning, and everyone was determined to enjoy every minute—despite the Mediterranean sun doing its very best to test everyone’s staying power.

When the mercury rises, a few thoughtful wardrobe choices can make all the difference.

For women, think floaty dresses in natural fabrics like linen or cotton. Not only do they look effortlessly elegant, but they also allow air to circulate, helping you stay cooler throughout the day. Open-toed sandals are a lifesaver too—particularly when your feet decide to swell in the heat. Add a wide-brimmed hat and a fabulous pair of sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun while looking effortlessly glamorous.

If you’re lucky enough to be handed a beautiful fan by the bride and groom at a summer wedding, treasure it! It’s not just a lovely keepsake—it’s a lifesaver. Better still, pop a rechargeable battery-powered fan in your handbag. Trust me, you’ll quickly become everyone’s favourite person when you’re sharing the breeze.

Gentlemen, you’re not off the hook either. Linen shirts, lightweight chinos or smart tailored shorts (where the occasion allows), and breathable footwear such as loafers or smart open shoes will help keep you cool without compromising on style.

Now for one of my favourite model secrets…

Don’t underestimate your underwear.

If you read my last blog, you’ll know I firmly believe the right underwear is the unsung hero of every outfit. Models always had a stash of nude bras, tit tape, chicken fillets and shapewear because the right foundations can transform how clothes fit.

In summer, it’s even more important. Choose lightweight, breathable fabrics and make sure everything fits properly. Nobody wants straps digging in, waistbands rolling down or extra layers trapping heat. Your underwear should support you—not feel like you’re wrapped in cling film! Get the foundations right and everything else sits better, feels better and keeps you cooler too.

Another little tip? Stick to lighter colours where you can. White, cream, soft blues and pastels reflect the sun far better than darker shades, helping you stay cooler while looking fresh and summery.

Staying cool doesn’t mean sacrificing elegance. Choosing breathable fabrics, lighter colours and relaxed silhouettes allows you to enjoy summer events looking polished while feeling comfortable from morning until the last dance.

Because the best accessory you can wear this summer is a smile—and that’s much easier when you’re not overheating.

Enjoy the sunshine, embrace the warmth, wear the right underwear, and remember…

Looking cool is one thing. Feeling cool is even better.

Stay stylish, stay comfortable, and I’ll see you in the next blog.
